What is Requant

Requant is an experimental proof-of-work cryptocurrency whose mining work is the forward pass of a deep int8 neural network. The name comes from the exact integer requantization between the network's layers; the work function is called TNet. A public pre-alpha test network has been running since 9 October 2026. Its coins (RQT) have no value, and the network may be reset when the rules change.

The idea in three sentences

  • GPUs and AI accelerators are built for one thing above all: multiplying int8 matrices on tensor cores. TNet makes that computation the proof of work, so 86–88% of a mining attempt runs on tensor cores on the GPUs measured so far.
  • A miner pushes 65,536 input rows through eight 8192 × 8192 int8 layers, rounding exactly between layers; every 256-byte piece of an output row is a lottery ticket.
  • A node checks a winning ticket by recomputing a single row: 272 bytes of work data in the block and about 11 ms on eight cores of a laptop CPU, with no proof system.

How TNet works explains the construction; the research programme explains how it was found.

What is already built

The chain

  • UTXO ledger with ed25519 signatures (strict RFC 8032 verification), bech32m addresses and 1-minute blocks with ASERT difficulty adjustment.
  • Smooth emission starting at 4 RQT per block with a permanent 0.25 RQT tail, no premine, and a development fund of 6% of the block reward that ends by itself after 2,097,152 blocks (economics).
  • Limited contracts in consensus: 2-of-2 multisignature outputs, hash-time-locked contracts, absolute and relative time locks, revocable outputs and revocable HTLCs, and anyone-can-pay signatures. They are the building blocks for atomic swaps with Bitcoin-family chains, EVM chains and Monero, and for payment channels, without a later hard fork (spending conditions).

The node (requantd), a single binary for Linux and Windows:

  • headers-first synchronisation, a mempool with fee-rate eviction and a start-up snapshot that skips replaying the chain;
  • JSON-RPC 2.0 with batches, cookie or token authentication and a long-polling mining interface;
  • a built-in block explorer, public REST API, faucet and mining pool, each switched on by a flag;
  • signed releases with opt-in self-update and automatic rollback;
  • a watchman that reports stalls, deep reorganisations, rate jumps and failed re-verification, and an on-demand supply audit of the UTXO set;
  • resource limits: bounded peers, messages, orphans and uploads, and a node that steps back when its machine is busy.

Wallets

  • requant-wallet, a command-line HD wallet: one 24-word phrase for many addresses, watch-only copies, offline signing that checks the coins it spends against their parent transactions, deposit address lists for services, and a mode that needs no node of your own.
  • A Web Wallet in the browser, desktop and Android apps and a Chromium extension (wallets).

Mining

  • CPPminer, a GPU miner with built-in int8 tensor-core kernels for NVIDIA Turing and newer, a self-test against the CPU and long polling, with no miner fee.
  • A public pool that recomputes every share, pays by PPLNS, follows each payout to confirmation and shows per-device statistics (pool).

Research

  • The full research record is public, including the designs that failed and a closed lattice programme (negative results).

Status

  • Pre-alpha. The work function is frozen; the chain rules are a draft for the test network and may change before a main network.
  • Test network only. Main-network genesis, development-fund key and launch criteria are not set.
  • No external review yet of the work function, the chain rules or the wallets.
  • Nothing on this site is a security or investment claim.
